M80 interchange ramps re-opened

Back to Newsfeed

Work crews have now completed a major part of our summer works program on the West Gate Freeway between the M80 interchange and Grieve Parade.

After six weeks of carefully planned closures, the ramps at the M80 interchange are now fully re-opened to motorists.

This is an important part of widening the West Gate Freeway from 8 to 12 through lanes that will provide quicker and safer travel to and from the city and western suburbs

Completed work

Throughout summer we:

  • demolished the eastern side of the Grieve Parade bridge over the West Gate Freeway and installed 18 precast bridge beams to facilitate road widening works on the freeway
  • built new road pavement, stormwater drains, and  built gantry support bases for a large gantry crane that will aid future works at the M80 interchange.
  • partially demolished, rebuilt and widened the citybound entry ramp from M80 to the West Gate Freeway which will provide an extra lane for inbound traffic heading toward the West Gate Freeway once we have completed freeway widening works
  • temporarily jacked the Geelong Road outbound entry ramp bridge toward Princes Freeway to replace ageing bridge bearings to extend the life of the bridge.

Upcoming work

Works will continue over the next month on the Grieve Parade bridge over the West Gate Freeway as we finish upgrading it to a newer, stronger bridge that will support traffic for the next 100 years.

Grieve Parade will be reopened to traffic on 22 March 2021 once new road pavement and new barriers installed. For now, one lane in each direction remains open on Grieve Parade over the West Gate Freeway.

As we are now in the final stage of the Summer Blitz construction works, motorists should take note of the following works and nightly closures:
