The new Avon River rail bridge in Stratford is open three months ahead of schedule.

Gippsland Line trains will now travel at up to 90km/h on the new structure, a huge improvement from the 10km/h limit on the old bridge.

In addition to connecting the new bridge to the rail line and completing critical track and signalling works, we have also upgraded the nearby McAlister Street level crossing.

Artist Ray Thomas has begun work on the new bridge’s 25-metre long and two-metre high mural, facing Apex Park. The mural will honour the Brayakaulung clan and their connection to the Avon River.

The project’s improvements to Apex Park, including a new nature-based playground and BMX/pump track will continue into early 2021.
