Avon River bridge

The Avon River bridge in Stratford was completed in December 2020.

Trains can travel up to 90km/h over the new bridge, an 80km/h increase on the old bridge and improved reliability for passenger services.

Heritage listing

In December 2018, the Heritage Council of Victoria included the original Avon River bridge on the Victorian Heritage Register.

The bridge is considered significant due to its clear association with the development of Victoria’s railway network. It is a notable example of a rail bridge that can be easily understood and appreciated.
