Traralgon locals gathered on Saturday April 29 to celebrate the opening of the new accessible pedestrian overpass at their station delivered as part of the Gippsland Line Upgrade.
The event featured a smoking ceremony and Welcome to Country from the land’s traditional owners, the Gunaikurnai.Gippsland singer-songwriter Libby Willems performed her song Ridin’ on the Gippsland Line, and the event also included games, face-painting and a stall from Traralgon and District Historical Society.
The new overpass has a bright, light interior and the outside has been clad to protect users from the weather.Lifts in the new overpass give people of all abilities the option to cross the rail line in the centre of town.
It will also connect the new second platform at the station for train passengers when the project is complete.
