Major construction on second platforms at Bunyip, Longwarry, Morwell and Traralgon stations is complete. A new signalling system is being installed along the line, which will allow for more services and greater reliability.
More disruptions will be taking place to finalise our work and complete safety testing and driver training. This will allow for extra daily services between Traralgon and Melbourne.
Bunyip, Longwarry, Morwell and Traralgon stations are being upgraded.
Second platforms are being built and the track is being duplicated in sections to allow trains more time to pass each other. These upgrades will allow for more frequent and reliable services.
The project will deliver accessibility and safety upgrades on the existing platforms at Bunyip, Longwarry, Morwell and Traralgon stations. This will allow passengers of all abilities to safely and easily navigate the precincts.
This will include upgrades to:
- priority seating signage and allocated space line-marking at waiting areas
- ramps, staircases and footpaths
- handrails and kerb-rails
- tactiles on all the existing platforms
- toilets at Traralgon and Morwell
- relocation of myki machines and bollards.
This is in addition to the new infrastructure that will be built, which will be fully accessible.
At Traralgon Station, we are finalising our work on the lifts and pedestrian paths leading to the new overpass and stairs. This will make sure it is safe for pedestrians as the overpass is scheduled to open next month.
There are no level crossing removals within the current scope of the Gippsland Line Upgrade.
We are upgrading train detection technology at level crossings along the line to improve safety for motorists and train passengers.
Extensive rail modelling and operational assessment were undertaken to inform the final design of the Gippsland Line Upgrade, to deliver a 40-minute service between the peaks between Traralgon and Melbourne.
As a result, the project will deliver a modified track duplication design between Bunyip and Longwarry to enable the same number of additional services and improved reliability.
The design does not include duplicating the track over the Bunyip River.
Regional Rail Revival oversees the construction of the regional rail upgrades, this includes the Gippsland Line Upgrade.
