Construction on the new Avon River Bridge progressed in January, while works continued on the Metro Tunnel project. Work also got underway to improve drainage on the Gippsland Line between Morwell and Bairnsdale.

V/Line also undertook track maintenance during this time. This critical work will ensure trains can continue to operate efficiently and reliably.

Crews working on the new Avon River Bridge built embankments for the foundation of the new track that will connect the new bridge to the existing line on either side of the river.

These works were completed ahead of schedule, minimising noise and traffic disruptions for Stratford locals.

The new $95 million Avon River rail bridge will allow trains to safely travel at up to 90km/h, a massive improvement on the 10km/h speed limit currently in place on the existing bridge.
