Metro Tunnel Project actively looks for opportunities to reuse materials.
We found a number of secondary uses for untreated timber packaging that was used to transport materials during tunnel fit-out works. Opportunities for re-use include using it to store other materials and to provide support for access ramps.
We also donated some of the timber to the Braybrook Commons Community Garden to build raised garden beds, which are more accessible for elderly and disabled community members. This initiative allowed us to adopt circular economy principles, by diverting the packaging from landfill and providing materials to the local community for use.
