Metro Tunnel disruptions in the south east and CBD

Once the Metro Tunnel opens later this year, your trains will run through the tunnel and 5 new stations – Arden, Parkville, State Library, Town Hall and Anzac.

While we prepare for opening, there will be disruptions on the rail and road network.

Benefits for all Victorians: new connections and more choice

The Metro Tunnel will mean more ways to move around Melbourne when it opens in 2025.

It will double the size of Melbourne’s underground rail network as we move towards becoming Australia’s biggest city.

By creating a second rail line under the city, the Metro Tunnel will ease congestion in the City Loop for more reliable services on other train lines.

For the first time all Victorians, including regional passengers, will have access to Parkville’s world-class hospitals and university by train, via Parkville Station.

They will also be able to get to important Melbourne landmarks including the Shrine of Remembrance and the Royal Botanic Gardens as well as St Kilda Road’s employment hub by train for the first time from Anzac Station.

Interchange stations between City Loop and Metro Tunnel

The Metro Tunnel and City Loop will connect at two key CBD locations – between Flinders Street Station and the new Town Hall Station, and between Melbourne Central Station and the new State Library Station.

Connections between these stations will mean passengers on all metropolitan lines can interchange without having to touch off and on.
