Lone Pine trees being moved at Simpson Barracks, Yallambie

Two lone pine trees at Simpson Barracks in Yallambie have been carefully moved away from construction and planted at a new ceremonial area built by North East Link.

The trees were originally planted at the barracks in 2005 and have been relocated to centre-stage at the new ceremonial area.

The seven-metre-tall pines, with an eight-metre canopy, were lifted into position by a 100-tonne crane.

In collaboration with the Department of Defence, a mix of native and exotic trees have also been planted at Simpson Barracks’ historic Meares House to revitalise a traditional garden, lawns and avenue.
