Matted Flax-lily planting at Cherry Street Reserve, Macleod
We’re working to increase the number of significant trees and plants in Melbourne’s north east.
Up to 52 Studley Park Gum trees are expected to be removed to build the North East Link tunnels. We’re working to replace each tree removed with at least two – ensuring an increase in the local population.
In 2021, more than 300 trees grown using locally collected seeds were planted in Yarra River parklands in Templestowe and Lower Plenty.

Matted Flax-lilies have been carefully moved away from construction areas and planted in new locations.
From the 139 Matted Flax-lily plants collected, more than 450 have been grown and planted – establishing new populations more than 3 times the size.
Matted Flax-lilies have been planted at Cherry Street Reserve, Macleod and Gresswell Forrest Nature Conservation Reserve in Watsonia.
