Traralgon-based artist Marilyn Fenton created artworks for Morwell and Traralgon stations.
Originally from Bairnsdale, Marilyn has been a part of the local community for decades. A member of the Stolen Generation, Marilyn studied art with community now a focus of her work.
“My artwork is all about community. In Morwell and Traralgon, community come together,” she says. “My artwork is (about) gathering together, have a yarn, have a talk, and catching up with family.“Sometimes it’s sorry, sometimes it’s good times but it’s all about family and community.”
The artworks
Marilyn used traditional Gunaikurnai line patterns depicting men and women, travel, meeting, and the five Gunaikurnai clans to create the artworks.
She hopes seeing her artwork will be an eye-opening experience for people getting off the train at Morwell and Traralgon.
The process
Marilyn’s artworks have been sandblasted into the upgraded forecourts. Customised stencils by ProStrip Sandblasting were used.
The top layer of concrete was removed to expose Marilyn's designs.
