We’re upgrading the intersection of Ballan, McGrath and Greens roads in Wyndham Vale.
The upgrade will improve safety, reduce travel times and congestion, and make it easier and safer to walk and cycle through the area.
From early 2026, we’ll begin major works to build the new intersection. The upgrade will be delivered by workers using a range of heavy machinery.
Managing noise
Construction noise varies depending on the type of work we’re doing. You may hear heavy machinery, such as excavators, trucks, generators or power tools. If you live close to our work, you may notice more noise at times.
Before construction starts, we complete noise and vibration assessments to predict potential impacts on nearby homes and shops. This helps us plan works in a way that minimises disruption.
We also measure noise levels before construction begins. We use this as a baseline to compare noise during construction and to help us fix any excessive noise.
Managing vibration
If you live or work near our construction site, you may feel some vibration in your home or shop. These vibrations are typically well below levels that could affect the condition of your property.
Before works start, we assess areas that may experience increased vibration. This includes checking equipment against relevant criteria, evaluating potential impacts, and planning how to manage them.
We use construction methods that reduce ground vibration. We monitor vibration during our work to make sure we stay under safe limits and stop well before there’s any risk of structural damage.
Managing impacts from noise and vibration
We work to minimise noise and vibration by:
- scheduling noisy activities during daytime working hours, whenever possible
- providing residents and businesses with advance notice about out of hours work
- reviewing how we build to reduce noise and vibration as much as possible
- monitoring noise and vibration and adding extra controls when needed
- storing construction equipment away from homes and businesses
- fitting machinery with engine noise reduction equipment
- adding acoustic enclosures around the construction site and equipment, where appropriate
- turning off equipment when not in use
- training our team in noisereducing behaviours.
Vibration near properties
While ground vibrations may be experienced, construction activities will be planned to avoid damage to property. However, we understand there may be concern about the potential for vibration to cause damage to property.
For peace of mind, property owners near our works have been offered a free property condition survey which will provide a record of your property’s condition before our work starts.
Further information regarding property condition surveys is available from the team.
Vibration during construction
People are sensitive to vibration and can feel vibration at very low levels, typically at levels much lower than will cause damage to property. If you feel vibration and want to talk to us, call 1800 105 105 while it’s happening.
