Overview
We’re adding a new Greensborough-bound lane to reduce congestion, and installing a new smart freeway management system to provide real-time information for drivers and ramp signals to improve traffic flow on the M80 Ring Road.
We’re also:
- upgrading road safety barriers
- resurfacing the Greensborough-bound road lanes
- applying new road markings
- installing new overhead signage.
Works started in early August 2024 and will continue until early 2025, with the smart freeway management system to be commissioned by late 2025. The project is being built by CPB Contractors.
When the West Gate Tunnel Project opens in 2025, and with the already completed sections of the M80 Upgrade, these additional capacity improvements will improve traffic flow and incident management on the M80 Ring Road to ensure safer and more reliable journeys.
