We’re building a new Grimshaw Street interchange
The upgraded interchange will see through traffic pass under Grimshaw Street, with dedicated lanes kept for local trips. A bus priority lane will improve public transport travel times. Two new underpasses will create safer journeys for pedestrians and cyclists. We’ve also created more space for trees and plants.
A new, wider Nell Street walking and cycling bridge will create better east-west connections for locals. In response to community feedback, we’ve moved the bridge further south for a shorter, more direct crossing.
There will be improved green spaces for Trist Street Reserve and AK Lines Reserve with upgraded with new wetlands, indigenous trees and plants, walking and cycling paths, noise walls and seats.
What’s coming up?
We’re getting Grimshaw Street ready for major construction of the new interchange later in the year, including building retaining walls, relocating utility services and preparing ramps.
From July, works will increase on Grimshaw Street, requiring daytime, overnight and weekend road closures at the intersection.
Later this year, works will ramp up with 24-hour activity, detours and lane closures in place at times.
During construction, we’ll be widening the Grimshaw Street bridge and building new ramps connecting to the North East Link tunnels and M80 Ring Road.
This new interchange will cut congestion and reduce travel times, with express lanes to the North East Link tunnels and dedicated lanes for local trips.
We’re continuing to plan these works, stay tuned for more information.
