Home stretch

We’re on the home stretch, with new sections of road opening in the last month and the intersection upgrades at Camms and Berwick-Cranbourne roads well underway.

We’re making great progress across the project. In April, we moved vehicles onto the newly built north and southbound lanes between Thompsons Road and Linsell Boulevard. We also opened the upgraded intersections at Bellarine Drive and Sunbird Avenue.

At the southern end of the project, we opened the new intersection at the South Gippsland Highway and Cameron Street, with vehicles now travelling on both carriageways. The new Cameron Street service road entry and exits also opened to traffic for the first time.

In another milestone, the new signalised intersection at Elmslie Drive also opened last month. For the first time, Elmslie Drive links up with Cameron Street to give more access into and out of the Livingston Estate.

We’re well on the way to completing the new Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road service road. We’ve removed the hump in the road over the old railway line and levelled out the road surface between Clarendon and Marklin streets. This section of the service road will open to traffic in mid-May once we’ve completed asphalting.

At the Berwick-Cranbourne Road intersection, we’ve removed the old road, drainage, kerbs and footpaths to make way for the new intersection. We’ve also continued installing the new drainage network and building the foundations of the new road.

At Berwick-Cranbourne Road, we’ve:

  • poured over 6000 tonnes of asphalt
  • relayed more than 2.2km of kerbs
  • installed approximately 1,700 metres of drainage.

What's coming up

During May, June and July, we’ll complete the final layer of asphalting and line marking in sections along Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road between the intersections at Thompsons Road and South Gippsland Highway.

We’re also working to lay the final layer of asphalt at the intersection of Berwick-Cranbourne Road and Gwenton Avenue, with the westbound lanes between Main Street and Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road opening in late May. Once this is done, we’ll open the westbound lanes and the intersection of Gwenton Avenue and Berwick-Cranbourne Road.

To lay asphalt, we need dry, warm weather. If we need to reschedule this work, we’ll let you know via our on-road signage and SMS. In the event of wet weather, we’ll reschedule works to the following night or day.

These impacts will be a combination of day and night works, with local detours in place. While we work, the following closures and changes will be in place.
