Better transport, more homes

Modern and convenient public transport will attract new investment, housing and economic investment in the areas surrounding the new SRL East stations at Cheltenham, Clayton, Monash, Glen Waverley, Burwood and Box Hill. We are doing the planning now to build on the existing strengths of these neighbourhoods to ensure they are sustainable, attractive and well-serviced neighbourhoods into the future.

SRL will support more homes and jobs around the six new SRL East stations. By the 2050s SRL will trigger an additional 70,000 households and 230,000 jobs in these areas. That’s more homes and jobs located near services and convenient transport connections.

Thank you to everyone who provided feedback on the Draft Precinct Visions. You can read about what we heard in the SRL Structure planning phase one engagement report.

After consultation with local councils, the structure planning boundaries for the areas around the six new SRL stations are now confirmed. You can view the structure planning boundary maps on the SRL website.

We are continuing to refine the plans to achieve the best community outcomes for these suburbs, with increased quality housing options, enhanced open space, as well as services and job opportunities close to efficient and reliable public transport.

Precinct key directions

Building on previous community feedback, local studies and ongoing planning, Suburban Rail Loop Authority (SRLA) is preparing a structure plan and draft planning scheme amendments for each SRL East Precinct – the neighbourhoods around the six new underground SRL stations.

To do this, we have developed a set of proposed key directions for each precinct that seek to address current and emerging challenges and meet the demand for greater housing choice and the needs of a growing population.

The key directions are based on five themes which underpin all structure planning for each precinct:

Boosting the economy
Enriching community
Better connections
Enhancing place
Empowering sustainability
