Community Liaison Group (CLG) provides an avenue for community representatives to learn more about the West Gate Tunnel Project, share valuable community insight to the project team and help support community engagement activities.
Our CLG plays an important role in keeping the local community informed about the key stages of the West Gate Tunnel Project.
The CLG includes community members from the scope of the project area, representatives from local Councils and relevant high interest groups such as Bicycle Network, Friends of Stony Creek, Friends of Lower Kororoit Creek, Friends of Moonee Pond Creek, BayWest BUG, LeadWest, Maribyrnong Truck Action Group, Brimbank City Council, Wyndham City Council, Hobsons Bay City Council, Victorian Transport Association, City of Melbourne, and Maribyrnong City Council.
CLG members have a range of skills including good community networks and strong knowledge of the local area and potential project issues.
CLG members are expected to disseminate information through their networks within the wider community and to bring feedback back to the group.
The CLG is balanced with representatives from local government, community interest groups, transport advocacy groups, the project team and project neighbours.
Membership of the CLG is open to all members of the community in the project area. Expression of Interest (EOI) is being sought through a public process, advertised in local newspapers and online. Interested community members are invited to complete an EOI for consideration.
Applicants will be assessed against selection criteria that includes the individuals’ strength of involvement in local networks, knowledge of locality and local project related issues and relevant expertise.
The CLG meets regularly, with meetings facilitated by an independent chair. The forum is used to discuss construction progress and plans, broader project initiatives and share community feedback and concerns. The meetings are an important avenue for members to provide local perspective on the project, particularly in relation to local issues and resolving community concerns.
The CLG is not a decision-making body.
The purpose of the group is to provide a forum for the exchange of information and views and to support other engagement activities.
The WGTP’s Community Liaison Group meets every six weeks at the West Gate Tunnel Project Information Centre, located at 2 Somerville Rd, Yarraville VIC 3013.
