The Metro Tunnel provides better connections for students and staff to Melbourne’s universities, TAFEs and schools, including a train station outside The University of Melbourne for the first time in its 170-year history.

The Metro Tunnel better connects students and staff to more than 900 tertiary courses and more than 30 TAFE courses along the Cranbourne, Pakenham and Sunbury Line.

The Metro Tunnel transforms travel for hospital staff, patients and visitors, with the new Parkville Station on the doorstep of The Royal Melbourne Hospital and Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and within a short walk of The Royal Women’s Hospital.

People going to the Royal Children’s Hospital can walk 15 minutes or take a short tram ride.

The Metro Tunnel better connects people to more than 30 hospitals and day procedure centres along the Cranbourne, Pakenham and Sunbury Line.

The Metro Tunnel provides a train connection to St Kilda Road’s busy business district for the first time. People will be able to catch the train to future jobs in Arden – expected to be home to 34,000 jobs by 2051.

The Metro Tunnel connects 4 major employment centres – at Sunshine, Parkville, Monash and Dandenong, making it easier for people to get to work. These centres are areas with growing numbers of businesses and institutions.

The Metro Tunnel connects 2 of Melbourne’s biggest housing growth corridors – Cranbourne/Pakenham and Sunbury/Diggers Rest – to jobs, education, health and each other.

It will also connect 20,000 future Arden residents to the rail network as it grows into a thriving community.

The Victorian Government’s Activity Centres Program will encourage building more homes near 15 train stations on the Cranbourne, Pakenham and Sunbury Line.
