Mnemonic Flow is a media artwork which re-imagines the original Mockridge Fountain that once stood in City Square, creating a dialogue between past and present. Exploring the representation of water through technology, the artwork invites passersby to interact with the digital water and interrupt the flow of light.

Animated content cascades across the artwork’s rills, creating echoes, memories of movement, and activity in the square. Digital shadows and silhouettes make up an evolving canvas which borders the northern edge of City Square.

The original Mockridge Fountain was designed and installed at City Square following a bequest from renowned architect John Mockridge, who lived and worked in Melbourne, and made a significant contribution to the city’s built fabric.

The original Mockridge Fountain was designed by Ron Jones, Darryl Cowie, and Simon Perry, and built in 2000.
