Trains returning to Boronia Station from Tuesday 4 August, with your new station precinct complete in spring.

Major construction is underway to upgrade Boronia Station and deliver a new landscaped plaza on Dorset Road, creating a modern and accessible precinct for the community.

When trains return on Tuesday 4 August, your new upgraded Boronia Station will be more comfortable, with new shelters, seating, refreshed toilets, additional CCTV and improved lighting on the platforms.

When the project is complete in spring 2026, commuters will also benefit from safer access via a new landscaped plaza, offering a direct walkway connecting the station with the Dorset Road shopping precinct. Together with a new pocket park, the new plaza will offer seating, with new planting and greenery. New canopies at each station entrance will enhance the overall look and feel of the station.

The protective services office is moving to the front of the station at Lupton Way, creating a clear line of sight through the station and the new plaza, further boosting safety.

Crews have now cleared the area where the new plaza will be built, and major work is continuing on the station buildings and platform facilities.

Over the coming weeks, we’ll also widen the station concourse, build new shelters on the platforms and upgrade seating and lighting.

Out and about in the community

We’re committed to working with local traders throughout construction works.

Since March, we’ve hosted regular coffee giveaways and spin-the-wheel pop-ups to share information about upcoming works.

School artwork mural: Where does the train take you?

Boronia Station has had a splash of colour added, thanks to students from Dillbadin Primary School.

38 students from Prep to Grade 6 have collaborated on the bright initiative, inspired by the prompt ‘where does the train take you?’.

Art teacher Mrs Blake said the students and the school community were thrilled to see the artworks now in place.

“Watching their creativity come to life and be shared with the wider community is incredibly special and I’m so proud of the work they put in to the project,” she said.

Major construction continues

Since the station closed in early May, we’ve been preparing the platform and concourse for construction, including lifting two-tonne excavators and safety barriers measuring twice the length of the Eiffel Tower down to the station platform.

We’re now continuing works on the new plaza, upgrading the platforms and building the new facilities and protective services officer buildings.

• installed new station buildings
• repainted the station walls and re-tiled the station concourse
• refurbished the waiting room
• improved the station platforms, including re-paving the platforms and installing steel canopies
• upgraded safety features around the station precinct with more CCTV and better lighting.

• continuing works for the new protective services office on Lupton Way, and works to refresh the station toilets
• upgrading drainage and footpath along Lupton Way and the station precinct
• continuing works to build the new pocket park
• relocating the Dorset Road pedestrian crossing 50 metres north on Dorset Road, creating a safer and more convenient walk between the Dorset Square shops and the station
• landscaping throughout the station precinct and in the new plaza.

Travel changes

Boronia Station

While we prepare to reopen the station and continue work after it reopens, travel changes will continue to be in place.

Boronia Station is closed until Tuesday 4 August to allow crews to safely widen the concourse, build new platform shelters and upgrade seating and lighting.

Belgrave Line trains are running express through Boronia Station, with a shuttle bus connecting Boronia passengers to train services at Bayswater and Ferntree Gully stations.

Passengers can catch the shuttle bus from Bay 6 at the Boronia Station bus interchange, near the Parkiteer bike storage cage.

Bus stop changes, pedestrian detours and car parking closures are also in place near the station precinct. Please check signage as we continue to work in the area.

Lupton Way

Lupton Wayis closed to vehicles until late September while we build the new landscaped plaza and upgrade the station precinct. Pedestrian detours are in place.

Dorset Road

Until early August, we're working to relocate the Dorset Road pedestrian crossing to be in line with the new plaza at 251-253 Dorset Road and upgrading traffic signals at the Chandler Road and Dorset Road intersection. Lane, footpath and car parking closures are in place – please follow signage.

Thanks for your patience while we get on with upgrading the station precinct to create a safer and more accessible Boronia Station.

Trains are back at Boronia Station on Tuesday 4 August

Access the station from Erica Avenue and use the lift and stairs to access the platform. While we continue working in the area, facilities and access will open in stages.

We'll continue to keep the community informed as works progress.

Buses replace trains

Between Bayswater and Belgrave from 8.30pm Monday 27 July to last service Monday 3 August, and from 8.30pm Friday 21 August to last service Sunday 23 August.
