Trains are back and the new Mordialloc Station is open

We’ve removed the level crossings at McDonald Street in Mordialloc and Station Street in Aspendale to deliver faster and safer journey times by building new rail bridges.

The new elevated Mordialloc Station opened on Thursday 21 May, with an entrance at each end to provide easier and convenient access for rail passengers, as well as all-abilities access, and improved lighting and upgraded toilets.

In Aspendale, cars and pedestrians can now safely travel under the new rail bridge – with the new Pine Crescent link road that connects Station Street to Nepean Highway – open. A new signalised intersection at Nepean Highway provides a safe crossing point for pedestrians, and we have installed a new roundabout on Station Street.

Over the next few months, we will continue to put the finishing touches on the project. This includes building a new walking and cycling path along the rail line, connecting to existing paths within Attenborough Park.

We've removed 92 level crossings across metropolitan Melbourne since 2015, making roads safer by preventing 119 crashes and near misses each year and cutting commute times by eliminating 60 hours of boom gate down time in the morning peak.

Say hello to your new Mordialloc Station!

Located in the heart of Mordialloc, the new elevated premium station features modern facilities and improved accessibility, including entrances at both ends of the platforms, improved lighting, public spaces and landscaping.

Over the coming months we’ll be putting the finishing touches on the station. When the project is complete, the new Mordialloc Station will have:

• more than 200 car spaces, including eight accessible spaces
• pick up, drop off and taxi zones on Albert Street.
• Bus stops conveniently nearby on Albert Street for smooth transfers between buses and trains
• Secure Parkiteer bicycle storage and bike hoops
• Station forecourt with raised garden beds, seating and landscaped areas
• A 1km shared path for a safer and more direct route to the station.

The McDonald Street, Mordialloc and Station Street, Aspendale level crossings were the 90th and 91st to officially be gone for good.

The new elevated Mordialloc Station opened on Thursday 21 May.

Your new road and pedestrian connections

We’ve made some improvements to the local traffic network to help drivers and pedestrians move around safely and smoothly.

Aspendale traffic changes

Now that the Station Street, Aspendale level crossing is gone for good, drivers no longer cross the rail line at Station Street near Mordialloc College. Instead, you can safely travel under the bridge via the new Pine Crescent link road between Nepean Highway and Station Street.

A new walking and cycling path along the rail line in Aspendale will be completed later this year, connecting to existing paths within Attenborough Park.

The new signalised intersection at Nepean Highway, near Hearle Avenue, includes a pedestrian crossing.

We’ve also built a raised crossing at the slip lane connection onto the Pine Crescent link road from Nepean Highway, where motorists must give priority to pedestrians and cyclists.

A new roundabout near Pine Crescent will keep traffic moving and provide smooth access to the Nepean Highway.

The Nepean Highway southbound lane between Parana Street and Kiandra Close will reopen in late July.

Mordialloc traffic changes

In early 2025, we built a new slip lane where McDonald Street meets Nepean Highway, improving traffic flow through the existing Nepean Highway/McDonald Street roundabout.

A new signalised pedestrian crossing near the northern station entrance allows pedestrians to safely cross McDonald Street.

Later this year, we'll also build a new one-kilometre path along the rail line, connecting into the northern and southern station entrances, Main Street and Pompei's Landing.

Changes to the way you travel

There will be some minor disruptions as we put the finishing touches on the new Mordialloc Station, install additional car spaces and complete landscaping across the station precinct and in Aspendale.
