Your new Parkdale Station precinct

We’re making the Frankston Line level crossing free by removing all 27 dangerous level crossings by 2029 and building 17 new stations, improving safety, reducing congestion and allowing more trains to run more often.

We are removing two level crossings at Warrigal Road, Mentone and Parkers Road, Parkdale and building a brand-new Parkdale Station. The boom gates will be gone for good, and the new Parkdale Station open, in early August.

The new Parkdale Station has been designed to complement the local character and village feel of Parkdale. The station includes modern facilities and will be safer and more accessible for locals.

The new station precinct will include car parking, a station forecourt, and a village green, and will improve access between Como Parade East and West, making it easier for the community to get around the local area.

When the station first opens there will be stair access only to the platforms. Passengers travelling to Frankston will need to enter and exit via the north entrance only. Both north and south entrances will be open for passengers travelling to the city.

Until the lifts open in September, a shuttle service will continue to operate between Mentone and Mordialloc stations for passengers who are unable to use the stairs.

As part of the project, we’re also creating new open space, including new trees and greenery, community gathering places, and sporting and recreational facilities for all ages to enjoy.

The new station precinct and open space will reflect the coastal character of Parkdale with natural materials and native plantings.

The boom gates at Warrigal and Parkers roads will be gone for good, and the new Parkdale Station open, in early August.

Project features

  • Two level crossings gone
  • New modern station
  • New open space and landscaping
  • Better connections including a new walking and cycling path
  • New community facilities

The new Parkdale Station

The new Parkdale Station will be a focal point for the precinct, inspired by the bayside character of the local area.

Referencing nautical architecture, the new station building will curve like a lighthouse, be made from translucent material, and have a warm-coloured, textured base. The translucent material will allow light in by day and cast a soft glow at night.

We’ve designed the station to be as compact as possible and blend in with the surrounding open space. With the main station entrance located at the heart of Parkdale Village, the station will connect with the local area and nearby village green.

A second station entrance is close to car parking and will provide additional access for passengers coming from the north. Both entrances will have stairs and lifts to the platforms.

Parkdale Station will have modern facilities, improved access and better connections to the nearby shops and services.

Car parking

In addition to the 49 commuter car parks, there will also be 148 time-restricted car spaces along Como Parade East and Como Parade West, near Parkdale Village.

Key station precinct features

  • Pedestrian crossings for the community to safely and conveniently access Parkdale Station from local streets
  • A 26-bike bay Parkiteer (secure parking) and additional bike hoops throughout the precinct
  • Pick-up, drop-off and taxi zone near the main station entrance
  • Accessible public toilet, managed by Kingston City Council
  • Station forecourt with new village green with seating and landscaping for the community to enjoy
  • Total of 49 commuter car parks including designated accessible parking spots, with entry via Como Parade West
  • Security cameras and improved lighting
  • Four new lifts installed to improve accessibility and safety to platforms.

New open space

The new open space will blend with the station precinct and local surrounds. With a focus on maximising green space and natural light, the open space will feature trees and landscaping, a walking and cycling path, nature-based playground, half basketball court, open-air gym and community garden, as well as gathering places.

The village green will be the new community heart of Parkdale, incorporating a gathering circle, alongside a promenade and meeting spaces with benches and seating.

Planting and landscaping will include a variety of native, indigenous and exotic species including flowering gums and mixed coastal planting. Some semi-mature trees, ranging from one to three meters in height, will also be planted in the open space. Parkdale’s reinstated palm trees will help create the new green corridor, along with other trees and plantings including canopy trees.

We have designed the new station precinct and open space to reflect the local character and village feel of Parkdale. More than 100,000 trees, shrubs and grasses will be planted in the new open space and along the rail corridor.
