Narre Warren Station artist render –  subject to change

As part of the Victorian Government's commitment to removing 85 dangerous and congested level crossings, we're removing the level crossing at Webb Street, Narre Warren.

The removal of the Webb Street level crossing will help make the Pakenham Line boom gate free by 2025.

We’ll remove the level crossing by building a new elevated rail bridge over Webb Street. We’ll also build a new Narre Warren Station. The new Narre Warren Station will feature improved and modern facilities for the community to enjoy.

Building a new rail bridge will ease congestion for the 13,200 vehicles that pass through the crossing each day and make it safer and easier for drivers, pedestrians and cyclists to move around.

Removing this level crossing will help create a level crossing-free Pakenham Line, which will change how locals live,

work and travel by delivering a safer and more reliable transport network, better connections and improved travel times.

Construction will start in late 2022 and the level crossing will be removed by 2025.

Working with your business during construction

Understanding your business and working with you is important to us.

During construction, our commitment to you and your business is to:

  • have dedicated staff to keep you up to date about the project and timing of upcoming works and disruptions
  • ensure you have information about travel disruptions to help your staff and customers get around
  • conduct marketing campaigns to encourage the community to continue to shop locally during works
  • encourage our workforce to shop, dine and use services locally
  • procure goods and services locally, where we can
  • manage traffic and workforce parking to keep it off local roads.

What to expect

Large construction projects like the Webb Street Level Crossing Removal Project can present both challenges and opportunities to nearby businesses.

Changes to travel and parking

Our works will take place on and next to key local and arterial roads. This may lead to occasional changes to how you, your staff and customers drive, use public transport, park, cycle and walk through the area.

We will let local businesses know in advance of disruptions to ensure you have information about detours or changes to access to help your staff and customers get around.

We’ll make sure the community is well informed about any changes in the area, so they know how to reach you.

Noise and dust

During construction, we will install piles to form the foundations of the new rail bridge and build retaining walls. We'll also work in and around the existing station platform to make way for the new Narre Warren Station. This work can be loud and create some dust.

We work to minimise the impact of dust in the area including cleaning roads around the site with street-sweepers.

Our team will let you know when you can expect increases in noise or high impact works.

Read the ‘What to expect during construction fact sheet’ for more information about how we manage Managing noise, dust, light and vibration.

Keeping your business up to date

During our works, we'll keep you up to date in the following ways:

  • Drop into your business to provide project updates and information about disruptions and answer any concerns you may have.
  • Deliver letters to local business about upcoming works and disruptions.
  • Provide regular email updates if you sign up to the Webb Street project
  • Send important information to your mobile phone. Simply SMS WEBB to 0427 840 967 to make sure you receive these updates.
