The project starting to build the bridge foundations at Calder Park Drive
Major works underway at Calder Park Drive
We're making the Sunbury Line level crossing free in 2025, a year ahead of schedule, removing eight dangerous and congested level crossings to improve safety, ease congestion and run more trains more often.
Major works are underway to remove the level crossing at Calder Park Drive by building a new road bridge over the Sunbury Line, with one lane in each direction.
Traffic improvements in the area mean we can close the dangerous level crossing at Holden Road by 2025, making local roads safer and journeys on the Sunbury Line faster.
These projects build on the Sunbury Line Upgrade which, along with the Metro Tunnel, will allow more trains to run more often.
Community feedback has shaped the new road bridge designs. They feature new walking and cycling connections, improved lighting and mostly native and indigenous landscaping to reflect the local area.
Over the coming months, you can expect to see more construction machinery in the area as we continue to build a temporary road at Calder Park Drive, to help keep traffic moving safely while we remove the level crossing.
The Calder Park Drive and Holden Road boom gates will be gone for good by 2025.
Car Parks for Commuters
We're building 485 new and upgraded car spaces at Watergardens Station, with more bike hoops, CCTV and lighting. Works will be complete in late 2024.
Major construction underway
What we've been up to
- Setting up our site compounds at Calder Park Drive

What's coming up
- We’ll continue to relocate utilities to make way for the new road bridge
- Works start on the foundations for the new road bridge
- Piling works continue in the area
- We'll work around the clock at times in October and November to finish the temporary road and relocate power while trains aren't running.

Out in the community
Thanks for visiting our Calder Park Drive community information sessions in May and August.
The 4 sessions engaged over 600 residents and included kids play equipment, a spin wheel for free giveaways, visual representations of the new Calder Park Drive road bridge and the project team there to answer any questions.
Our team will continue to work with the community to keep you informed as works progress through a range of channels, including letterbox drops, door knocks and email updates.
Holden Road
We're closing the Holden Road level crossing after we open the new road bridge at Calder Park Drive to make local roads safer and journeys on the Sunbury Line faster.
Holden Road will close after the road bridge opens at Calder Park Drive. Vehicles will be able to use the new Calder Park Drive road bridge or detour via Melton Highway or Plumpton Road to access the Calder Freeway.
Diggers Rest
We’re removing the level crossings at Old Calder Highway and Watsons Road, Diggers Rest in 2025.
Concept designs for the new road bridges at Old Calder Highway and Watsons Road, Diggers Rest will be available to view soon.
