Major construction of the Metro Tunnel’s Parkville Station is now complete.

Work summary

Remaining works within the Parkville precinct include:

  • fit out, testing and commissioning of the station, including the station entrances, chiller plant and the tunnel ventilation shafts
  • residual reinstatement and public realm works
  • ongoing testing and commissioning of train and tunnel systems.

Station testing, commissioning and fit out works, ongoing until 2025

  • Testing and commissioning works are continuing throughout 2024 at the station entrances, ancillary buildings, tunnel ventilation shafts, chiller plant and within the station box
  • Fit out and façade works are being completed on station structures from within the existing site area. This includes station entrances adjacent to the Royal Melbourne Hospital, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, on Royal Parade and Grattan Street, and within the station box
  • Removal of temporary structures from site. This includes removal of concrete using excavators, saw cutting and hammering. These works may produce intermittent periods of medium to loud noise
  • Removal of site fencing and hoarding. Temporary fencing will remain in place around a reduced site area at Grattan Street east and west, including station entrances, ancillary buildings, tunnel ventilation shafts, chiller plant, lifts and skylights
  • Further advice on upcoming traffic changes, including the reopening of Grattan Street, will be provided when available
  • Trucks will continue to complete deliveries intermittently via the Barry Street entrance throughout 2024.

Train testing and commissioning, ongoing until 2025 24 hours

  • Ongoing testing and commissioning of train and tunnel systems
  • Work inside the tunnel will continue 24/7.
