Bulleen Park Sports Upgrade is part of North East Link’s more than $100 million sports and recreation program to deliver game-changing community benefits that will keep local clubs playing and thriving during construction and beyond.

Upgrades to Bulleen Park are powering ahead, with all three sports ovals now under redevelopment and two brandnew pavilions rapidly taking shape.

Oval works

All 3 sporting ovals at Bulleen Park are now closed to fast-track upgrades to the ovals.

At oval 3, fencing has now been installed around the outside of the oval, concrete has been poured for the new synthetic cricket wicket and light towers have been put up around the oval. The concrete bases for the AFL goal posts are now in place with installation of the new playing turf expected to begin from mid-2026.

Meanwhile, at oval 1 and oval 2, earthworks are nearly finished as we prepare the playing surface for its major upgrades.

Pavilion works

Bulleen Park’s new pavilions continue to take to the sky, with piling now complete and groundfloor structures finished across both buildings. The project team’s focus is now shifting to the building of the second level and installing the roof over the coming months, ahead of anticipated completion in early 2027.

Bulleen Park access changes

To hand back the upgrades of Bulleen Park to local clubs in early 2027, we’ve temporarily closed the Bulleen Park access road to the AFL/ cricket ovals. During this time the public toilets, walking paths around Bulleen Park, aeromodellers and archery fields remain open for use.

Environmental and safety measures

We carefully manage our works in line with the project’s strict environmental performance requirements including:

  • monitoring noise and dust levels to ensure compliance with regulations
  • speed restrictions for vehicles
  • implementing environmental controls
  • using traffic management to safely guide drivers, cyclists and pedestrians through the area.

For the safety of the public and our workers, only authorised staff are permitted in work areas.

Site set-up until mid-2026 (indicative)

Eastern Freeway Upgrades

Works are continuing to progress across the Eastern Freeway. We’ve recently continued to:

  • install beams for the new elevated ramps that will connect the upgraded Eastern Freeway into the North East Link tunnels
  • widen the Bulleen Road bridge
  • build new noise walls
  • build the Ringwood-side of the new Doncater Road bridge and upgrade Doncaster Park and Ride.

As part of these activities, occasional closures of the Eastern Freeway will be required. Stay up to date with disruptions.

North East Link tunnels

In Bulleen, great progress is being made on the Yarra Link green bridge and tunnel entrance. Over the coming months, you will continue to see these structures take shape as you travel along Bulleen Road. Further north, works are continuing on the Manningham Road interchange entry and exit ramps, as well as construction of the Motorway Control Centre with timber structures now being installed.

We have also retrieved our first Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM), which has completed its journey to Bulleen!
