Weekend and overnight road and lane closures

We’re building the new Grimshaw Street interchange in Greensborough, with express lanes to the North East Link and less congestion for locals.

Before major construction can begin on the new Grimshaw Street Interchange, we'll work to relocate underground and overhead utility services, including water, gas and electricity. Utility services providers will advise affected properties before any planned outages.

From June to August 2025, there’ll be intermittent road and lane closures on Grimshaw Street, between Macorna Street and William Street, Greensborough. During these closures there'll be local road access impacts, with detours in place. We'll be working both day and night to complete these tasks while minimising disruption to the community.

What we'll be doing

Works areas will be established on Grimshaw Street and local roads, with activities including:

  • placing traffic barriers, fencing and lighting to establish temporary works areas
  • cutting into asphalt and concrete on roads and paths
  • digging and drilling works for utility services located underground
  • piling and pouring concrete to construct new road bridge foundations
  • installing and connecting new utility lines such as cables and pipes
  • removing and disconnecting redundant utility lines and materials
  • laying asphalt, line marking, and concrete to reinstate road and paths
  • working at heights for utility services located overhead.

What to expect

As we conduct these works you may notice:

  • varying levels of noise, light, dust and intermittent vibration during work hours
  • materials and equipment deliveries to and from works areas, including out-of-hours via local roads
  • AK Lines Reserve site compound operations, including construction traffic access
  • planned outages to utility services, with more information provided to affected properties
  • temporary arrangements for council bin collection.

Managing construction updates

The project has strict requirements to manage construction impacts, such as noise at night, with real time monitoring to protect the local community and environment.

We plan our works to minimise these disruptions with various methods such as changing construction methods and scheduling noisy works during the day.

Access changes in your area

Traffic conditions will change on local roads and footpaths while we work on Grimshaw Street. Please follow all signage and directions from traffic controllers.

There'll be some impacts to residential driveways and on street parking around the area. We'll be in direct contact with impacted residents. This is necessary for everyone’s safety and will allow works to be completed as quickly as possible.

We’ll also speak with impacted local businesses and schools to provide more information ahead of works.

Please plan your trip and allow additional travel time. Disruption dates are subject to change. For the latest updates on what's happening at Grimshaw Street, visit bigbuild.vic.gov. au/roads/grimshaw.
