Works are underway on Stage 2 of the Warrnambool Line Upgrade, to enable VLocity trains to run to Warrnambool for the first time.

What we are doing

We’re completing work to upgrade 53 public level crossings between Winchelsea and Warrnambool to improve safety and enable VLocity trains.

The final phase of works includes the Tip Crossing and Mahoneys Road level crossings.

Works will include:

  • signalling and communications system upgrades
  • installation of new level crossing equipment
  • site inspections and surveys
  • testing and commissioning of upgraded level crossings

Works will take place from 7am to 6pm from Saturday 15 June to Sunday 25 August.

What to be aware of

The entry road from Merri Street to Tip Crossing will be closed from 7am Tuesday 18 June to 5pm Wednesday 19 June to allow the safe completion of level crossing equipment installation.

There may be an increase in noise in the rail corridor at times. We’ll minimise these impacts by:

  • turning off equipment and vehicles when not in use
  • covering truck loads
  • monitoring noise and dust
  • communicating impacts to those who may be affected.

Traffic management will be implemented as required.

Coaches will replace trains between Geelong and Warrnambool from Saturday 15 June to Sunday 25 August.

Major construction on the South Geelong to Waurn Ponds Duplication will also be completed during this time. Significant delays are expected. Check before you travel.

How we are minimising impacts

Dust

We use a range of measures to minimise dust from construction activities, including placing dust monitors in and around the construction site, staging works to minimise exposed areas and the use of water carts to wet down work areas where needed.

Noise and vibration

To minimise potential noise and vibration impacts we monitor noise and vibration levels to make sure they are within the Environment Protection Authority noise control guidelines and limit out of hours work.
