Getting ready for a big year in Mordialloc and Aspendale

Back to Newsfeed
It's set to be a huge year for Mordialloc and Aspendale, with another 2 level crossings set to go, and the new elevated Mordialloc Station opening to passengers.

Work has progressed on site, and crews have recently installed all 68 L-beams that make up the new McDonald Street and Station Street rail bridges, and are now building the platforms for the new premium Mordialloc Station.

Sections of the new elevated platform, lift shafts and building structures were delivered to site late last year, with a total of 30 prefabricated station building modules being delivered and installed as part of the project.

Guided walking tours

The community will have the opportunity to view the works up close, with the project team hosting guided walking tours of the Mordialloc Level Crossing Removal Project up over the coming months.

The tours will provide an overview of what’s happening on the ground, with project engineers discussing what’s coming up in the lead-up to the new station opening, and how the project will improve safety, travel reliability and local connections.

Community members can book their guided tour online via the walking tour event page. Registration is essential and spots are limited.

Next steps

Over the coming months, the team will continue work on the station platforms and buildings and begin constructing the new commuter car park in Mordialloc.

Closer to completion, Metro Trains crews will begin testing trains on the new elevated rail bridges to get ready for passengers. The new link road onto Nepean Highway will also open to vehicles, providing a safer and less congested connection, while landscaping works get underway across Mordialloc and Aspendale.

With the Bear Street boom gates already gone for good, the McDonald Street and Station Street level crossings will be removed and the new Mordialloc Station will open in 2026, bringing the Frankston Line one step closer to being level crossing free in 2029, boosting safety and easing congestion on local roads.
