An alliance of Laing O'Rourke, Fulton Hogan and Jacobs is set to design and construct the Hurstbridge Line Upgrade and 2 level crossing removals, with the contract expected to be awarded in early 2017.
This $500 million package of works includes the duplication of tracks between Rosanna and Heidelberg on the Hurstbridge Line, the building of a new train station at Rosanna and the removal of level crossings at Grange and Lower Plenty roads.
The Hurstbridge Line is heavily congested. Removing the level crossings and building a second track for a 1.2km section from Rosanna to Heidelberg will allow more services, reducing crowding and carrying more people every single day.
Grange Road and Lower Plenty Road level crossings are 2 of Melbourne's worst – with boom gates down for more than a third of the morning peak, clogging roads in Melbourne's north eastern suburbs.
Over the next few months we'll continue community consultation and further develop the design options, with construction to commence early next year and completion expected by 2019.
