More boom gates are set to go from the Frankston Line, with locals invited to have their say on level crossing removals at Armstrongs Road and Station Street in Seaford.
The dangerous and congested level crossings are being removed by building rail bridges over the roads, boosting safety and making travel times more reliable by permanently separating trains from road users.
A new Seaford Station will be built as part of the project, with modern and accessible facilities for passengers.
The new rail bridges and elevated station will provide more opportunities for new community spaces, car parking, walking and cycling connections, and landscaping.
Removing these crossings, the scenes of 7 near misses since 2016, will boost safety and ease congestion for the thousands of motorists who use the crossings every day, with the boom gates down for more than 30 minutes in the morning peak when up to 40 trains pass through.
Construction will start in 2027, with the level crossings gone for good and the new Seaford Station open in 2029.
In the coming weeks, crews will carry out site investigations in the area, along with further engineering assessments next year to help inform the project’s designs.
As part of this early planning, locals are being invited to provide feedback about how they move around the area and what’s important to them by Sunday 30 November at Engage Victoria.
Frankston Line services will return to the City Loop in February next year when the Metro Tunnel is fully integrated into the wider network, adding an extra 1000 weekly services across Melbourne.
It will be followed by a level crossing free Frankston Line by 2029, when every set of boom gates will be gone from the line, making road and rail journeys safer and more reliable.
In total, 110 level crossings are being removed, with 87 already gone for good.
