We’re removing the dangerous and congested Maddox Road level crossing by building a rail bridge over the road, improving safety, reducing congestion, and improving local connections.
We'll close the nearby level crossing at Champion Road, only 500m away, and build a new link road to keep vehicles moving between Maddox Road and Champion Road, improving safety and cutting travel times, especially during peak periods.
As planning continues, we’re seeking nominations from Newport locals to represent their community as part of the project Stakeholder Liaison Group (SLG).
The SLG is an important way for us to connect with the community and will be made up of volunteer community members who represent the views and interests of local residents, business owners, and community organisations.
SLG members will provide local perspectives and insights with the project team and share project information to their represented communities.
The group will meet regularly to discuss project matters and ensure that local communities are informed on issues that may impact them throughout the project.
To nominate for a position on the Maddox Road and Champion Road, Newport SLG, visit Engage Victoria. Nominations close 11.59pm, Sunday 11 February.
Both the Maddox Road and Champion Road level crossings will be gone by 2026.
The Werribee Line will be level crossing free by 2030, boosting safety, easing congestion, and allowing more frequent and reliable services to run on the line.
