More than 500 locals – and as many dogs - attended our community event to celebrate the end of works on the Parkdale Level Crossing Removal Project.
Locals watched on from the new gathering circle for a Welcome to Country by Mark Brown from the Bunurong Land Council.
Crowds made the most of the new community and open spaces under the elevated rail, listening to live music from talented secondary school students, checking out the historical viewfinder, and enjoying food at the picnic tables and seating in the new ‘village green’.
Children (adults, and pets) were entertained with free popcorn and fairy floss, face painting, bubble blowers, local trader pop-up stalls, a petting station with farm animals, and a mini trackless train. Even the local dogs had fun, taking their owners to get portraits.
Thank you to the Parkdale community, especially the local traders and schools, for your patience while we removed the two dangerous and congested level crossings at Warrigal and Parkers roads and built a new Parkdale Station.
