Parkdale level crossing free this winter

Back to Newsfeed

The 2 dangerous and congested level crossings at Warrigal Road and Parkers Road will be gone for good this winter.

A major construction blitz to remove the temporary tracks, get trains running on the new elevated rail and get the new Parkdale Station ready will start in mid July.

Crews will work 24/7 during this time, and the new Parkdale Station will be open by spring.

During this time, our teams will also be completing retaining walls, installing permanent fencing, painting the piers, and getting the station ready to operate.

Once trains are running, finishing works will continue in the station precinct including planting trees, bushes and grasses as well as building community gathering places and sporting and recreational facilities for the community to enjoy. There will also be a shared pedestrian and bicycle path connecting with the existing path between Cheltenham and Mentone.

The Frankston Line will be level crossing free with all 27 dangerous level crossings gone by 2029. Upgrades to the line will improve safety, reduce congestion, and transform the way locals live work and travel.
