Pier pouring proceeds at Parkdale

Back to Newsfeed

We've been busy in Parkdale this summer, pouring the concrete piers and crossheads which will help remove the 2 dangerous and congested level crossings at Warrigal and Parkers roads.

We’re using a cutting-edge innovation to control the curing of the concrete crossheads, carefully monitoring the internal temperature so they strengthen faster.

Plastic tubing inside the crosshead allows temperature-controlled water to be pumped through so the concrete achieves the required strength sooner, meaning we can get on with construction faster.

Once the piers and crossheads are in place, we'll start shipping in large L-shaped concrete beams from Kilmore. Two of these beams are stitched together on site to form a U-Trough. The beams will start being delivered later in February, mainly during the night to minimise disruption to the community.

The Parkdale level crossing will be removed by building a rail bridge and a new Parkdale Station with better facilities and more services.

The level crossings will be gone for good and the new Parkdale Station will open in 2024, with the project fully completed in 2025.

The Frankston Line will be level crossing free by 2029, transforming the way locals live work and travel.
