Prefabricated building modules set for Mordialloc

Mordialloc’s new elevated premium station is taking shape with some of the prefabricated pieces now being lifted into place on site.

A total of 30 prefabricated building modules will be delivered and installed for the new station, with 8 arriving so far this year.

The station modules vary in size, ranging from 1 tonne to a massive 40 tonnes each and will measure more than 750 square metres when fully assembled – equivalent to 3 tennis courts.

The prefabricated modular design allows the buildings to be built off site, minimising construction time and disruption for locals.

Porcelain tile features in the station use natural colours to blend the inside with the surrounding landscape, fading in colour towards the ceiling to accentuate the natural light.

The new station will be in the heart of Mordialloc and feature modern facilities, all-abilities access, improved lighting, public spaces, and enhanced landscaping.

An entrance at each end of the station will provide easier and convenient access for commuters.

Works are also progressing to remove the level crossings at McDonald Street in Mordialloc and Station Street in Aspendale by building new rail bridges over the rail line.

Late last month, crews finished installing the L-beams at Station Street, Aspendale. The giant beams weigh more than 120 tonnes and will create the U-trough trains will run through. Work has also started to install the 44 L-beams that will make up the elevated rail north of Mordialloc Creek.

With the Bear Street boom gates already gone for good, the 2 remaining level crossings will be removed and the new premium Mordialloc Station open in 2026, bringing the Frankston Line one step closer to being level crossing free in 2029, boosting safety and easing congestion on local roads.
