Repurposed trees in Parkdale's open space

Back to Newsfeed

As part of the project’s commitment to sustainability, we looked for ways to repurpose trees that could not be retained at Parkdale.

While we minimise removal of trees and plants as much as possible, some removals were necessary to make space for the new rail bridge over Warrigal and Parkers roads.

In Parkdale’s new open space under the rail bridge, you’ll see a range of re-used logs from acacias, banksias and eucalypts in the form of seats, stepping stones for children to play on, and feature pieces.

Our teams collaborated with CERES, a not-for-profit social enterprise that focuses on minimising timber waste, to prepare and preserve the logs while we got on with works in Parkdale.

Landscaping works are nearly complete. In total, we’ll plant more than 100,000 trees, shrubs and grasses in the new open space and along the rail corridor as part of the Parkdale Level Crossing Removal Project.

We’re also working with Navaroo, a social enterprise, to carry out landscaping works around Parkdale.
