With construction of your new Parkdale Station and the elevated rail complete, 2 of the iconic Parkdale canary date palms have returned. You’ll find them on Como Parade West opposite the shops, ready for the rest of landscaping around the station precinct.
You told us the importance of retaining the palms and their significance to Parkdale. So for the past year they’ve been on a holiday at a specialist nursery to ensure they’re in good health now that they’ve been returned home. The palms are the start of a new green corridor between Como Parade East and West.
In October, the other 3 palms will also return to Parkdale, and over the coming months we’ll plant 80 mature trees and another 100,000 saplings, shrubs and grasses in the open space and station precinct.
You’ll see our team out building the community facilities in the open space, including the half basketball court, nature-based playground and the walking and cycling path. In 2025, the Parkdale Level Crossing Removal Project will be complete.
The Victorian Government is removing 27 dangerous level crossings and building 17 new stations, making the Frankston Line level crossing free by 2029 and improving safety, reducing congestion, transforming the way locals live, work, and travel.
