Our crews are getting set up so we can hit the ground running in early 2023 to build Stage 1 of the Pakenham Roads Upgrade.

The Pakenham Roads Upgrade will upgrade 3 major roads in Pakenham including Racecourse Road, McGregor Road and the Princes Freeway.

The project will be delivered in 3 stages, with upgrades to the Princes Freeway the first to get underway.

Early works for Stage 1 to upgrade the Princes Freeway started in November, with pothole restoration works scheduled to start in early January. From November until late-December, we will establish site compounds, install safety barriers and temporary fencing as part of the scope of the project.

In January, we’ll spread 300 tonnes of asphalt to repair potholes within the project areas on sections of both the Princes Freeway, Racecourse Road, and Healesville-Koo Wee Rup Road as part of the scope of the project.

To complete works safely, there will be traffic management, lane closures and speed reductions to 40km/hr. Disruptions will be in place on weekdays between 9am and 3pm and 8pm to 5am on McGregor Road, Healesville-Koo Wee Rup Road and the Princes Freeway, including the Healesville-Koo Wee Rup Road freeway ramps.

Pakenham Roads Upgrade - Stage 1 will focus on improving access on and off the Princes Freeway at Healesville-Koo Wee Rup and McGregor roads and reducing bottlenecks for vehicles travelling on Healesville-Koo Wee Rup Road between Peet Street and Southeast Boulevard/Livestock Way. The project will reduce congestion and improve traffic flow and connectivity

The Pakenham Roads Upgrade is part of a wider investment in improving transport infrastructure across Pakenham for pedestrians, road and rail users alike. This includes the removal of the level crossings at Racecourse Road, McGregor Road and Main Street, 2 new train stations in Pakenham and upgrades to Healesville-Koo Wee Rup Road between Southeast Boulevard/Livestock Way and Manks Road.

Together, these projects will create a more efficient transport network throughout Pakenham, reducing bottlenecks, improving connectivity and safety for all road users.
