Stage 3 - Racecourse Road Upgrade

Pakenham Roads Upgrade

In July 2026 we opened all of the new lanes built as part of the Racecourse Road Upgrade.

Locals are now enjoying all of the benefits of the project with improved, safer traffic flow and more reliable travel times through this key area of Pakenham.

The Racecourse Road Upgrade included:

  • adding an extra lane on Racecourse Road between Peet Street and Henry Street
  • upgrading the intersection at Bald Hill Road by replacing the roundabout with traffic lights
  • upgrading the intersection at Railway Avenue and Campbell Street by adding traffic lights
  • improving bus connections by reopening Railway Avenue for buses only to access the new Pakenham Station
  • building new walking and shared use paths improving safety for pedestrians and cyclists and completing the missing link between Healesville-Koo Wee Rup Road in the south and the new Pakenham Station in the north
  • improving road safety by adding a centre median and safety barrier along Racecourse Road between Peet Street and Railway Avenue, with access to businesses becoming left in and left out only.
