Designs revealed for new stations in the west

Early designs have been released for 2 new train stations in Melbourne’s fast-growing west, boosting safety and accessibility for passengers at Tottenham and Albion.

Modern new stations will be built at Tottenham and Albion as part of Melbourne Airport Rail Stage 1: West Footscray to Albion Rail Upgrade.

Works are underway to untangle more than 6km of tracks and transform Sunshine Station into a superhub to unlock capacity for 1000 train services every day.

Tottenham Station will be rebuilt about 20m north of its current location, on the realigned Sunbury Line corridor to maintain access to Sunbury services running through the Metro Tunnel.

The designs show a new, wider underpass, allowing dedicated access from the northern station car park to Sunshine Road, separated from Ashley Street.

The new connection will be well-lit, making it safer and easier for passengers to access the station and future activity centres either side of the rail line.

Passengers will have lift and stair access to the new platforms, which will be built with shelter and lighting.

The new Albion Station, funded by the Victorian Government, will be rebuilt slightly east of its current location, featuring a new overpass with lifts and stairs leading to the central platform, upgraded lighting, new shelters and seating.

Accessibility across the station precinct will be improved by new pedestrian paths to the station on both sides of the rail line, with the current connection via the underpass remaining in place.

The $4.1 billion Melbourne Airport Rail Stage 1 project  is jointly funded by the Victorian and Australian governments and  is the first step in delivering a rail link to Melbourne Airport and electrification to  Melton, and  will  be completed in 2030.

The community is invited to view the station designs and provide feedback at Engage Victoria by 11.59pm, Sunday 14 June.
