Works are progressing from Watsonia to Bulleen, as we continue to prepare for major construction of the North East Link Tunnels.
We’re making great progress digging out the area for the Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) near Lenola Street, Watsonia.
Two big sheds are also taking shape on both sides of Greensborough Road. The shed on the corner of Yallambie and Greensborough roads will store the concrete tunnel walls that the TBM places behind it – as it digs its way towards Bulleen.
At Winsor Reserve in Macleod, the concrete foundation has been poured for the acoustic shed, where the dirt and rock that is removed during tunnelling will be loaded onto trucks.
Further south, the big blue hydromill machines we use to dig our foundation walls at the Lower Plenty Road interchange have been hard at work. These walls will eventually form part of the new on and off ramps at Lower Plenty Road.
In Bulleen, we’re installing structural walls, called D-walls, for the TBM retrieval area at the Manningham Road interchange. D-wall construction is also progressing at the Trinity Lake site compound.
Works are also progressing to divert Bulleen Road further west to create space for the tunnel entrance and Yarra Link green bridge. Traffic will continue to use the existing road before moving onto the new lanes later this year.
