Upgraded Gippsland Stations decorated with public artworks

Back to Newsfeed

Permanent public artworks developed by two local artists have been installed at stations upgraded as part of the Gippsland Line Upgrade.

Traralgon-based artist Marilyn Fenton created artworks for Morwell and Traralgon stations using traditional Gunaikurnai line patterns depicting men and women, travel, meeting and the five Gunaikurnai clans.

Marilyn’s artwork has been sandblasted into the new forecourts at the stations by ProStrip Sandblasting, using customised stencils.

The sandblasting technique removed the top layer of concrete, exposing the aggregate layer that displays the design.

At Bunyip and Longwarry stations, artworks by Berrys Creek-based artist Melanie Caple clad the accessible pedestrian ramps and stair entrances to the new platforms.

Melanie’s artworks - one for each upgraded station – have been imprinted on to custom-designed, perforated aluminium sheeting, also known as Pic Perf.

Melanie’s works celebrate local native flora and fauna, with the artist also considering the surrounding town, heritage and community elements in her designs.

Key creative themes were identified by the local community through consultation undertaken earlier in the project.
