Ka-chow! Meet Lightning McCrane

Back to Newsfeed

The 90-metre electric tower crane helping build the new Doncaster Park and Ride has officially been named ‘Lightning McCrane’.

The crane was named as part of a competition involving 4 local schools in Manningham, with over 200 entries submitted.

Johan from Birralee Primary School was crowned the winner, taking home a $500 Lego gift voucher.  Not only has he won naming rights, but the winning prize included a visit to the Doncaster Park and Ride to see the crane in person.

Johan got to put a face to the name and hear about how the electric crane works, and what it’s doing on our project.

‘Lightning McCrane’ is playing a vital role in the major upgrade of the Doncaster Park and Ride.

The new facility will include a 435-space multi-level carpark and improved passenger services, with a customer service office, toilets and a comfortable waiting area.

The Park and Ride is part of improving public transport connections on the Eastern Freeway, which will feature the dedicated Eastern Busway. The busway will link the east of Melbourne with the CBD, delivering faster, more frequent and more reliable trips. The 11km of dedicated bus lanes will run along the Eastern Freeway between Doncaster Road and Hoddle Street.

It passes the brand-new Bulleen Park and Ride, which features 5,000 square metre green roof with community park - a first for a Victorian public transport hub - and 370 car parking spaces.
