The Barwon Heads Road Upgrade - Stage 2a has achieved its first construction milestone while working to improve a key intersection in Armstrong Creek.
Project crews recently reopened Boundary Road between Barwon Heads Road and Pythais Way, after completing major works to upgrade the western leg of the intersection of Boundary and Barwon Heads roads.
As part of these works, new through and turn lanes were built on Barwon Heads Road and new turn lanes on Boundary Road, essential to the project’s goal of safer, smoother travel.
After the reopening, crews began working to mirror these improvements on the intersection’s eastern side.
The ultimate improvements to the Boundary Road intersection will include the installation of traffic lights, in a further boost to travel safety and traffic flow.
The works at Boundary Road reflect the project’s great progress since major works began in July.
Crews have also completed preparatory works for building new lanes between Reserve and Boundary roads, including relocating key utilities infrastructure and installing major drainage lines.
The Barwon Heads Road Upgrade is adding lanes, upgrading intersections and building shared path between Belmont and Connewarre.
Completed in 2023, Stage 1 of the project upgraded the section between Settlement Road, Belmont, and Reserve Road, Charlemont.
Due for completion by late 2027, Stage 2a is upgrading the section between Reserve Road and Lake Road, Armstrong Creek.
Due for completion in 2028, Stage 2b will upgrade the section between Lake Road and Lower Duneed Road, Connewarre.
