Yan Yean Road Upgrade to include traffic lights at Activity Way

The Yan Yean Road Upgrade – Stage 2 will install traffic lights at Activity Way to improve access to the Doreen Commercial Precinct.

Major Road Projects Victoria listened to community feedback on the project and has refined its design to include traffic lights at the intersection of Activity Way and Yan Yean Road. The existing access from Yan Yean Road will also be retained.

Two new bus stops, and a signalised pedestrian crossing will also be built at Activity Way to improve access to public transport for the local community.

MRPV has worked closely with the Department of Transport and Planning and the City of Whittlesea to refine the project design to address feedback from local businesses without affecting the safety or performance of the intersection.

The new design for Activity Way includes traffic lights as well as dedicated left and right turning lanes to improve access in and out of the business precinct, an improvement on the current access arrangement.

The updated design includes:

  • traffic lights at Activity Way, allowing drivers to turn left and right in and out of the intersection
  • a separate left slip lane from Yan Yean Road to access businesses on the corner of Yan Yean and Bridge Inn roads
  • on-street parking in front of the Old General Store and Post Office
  • two new bus stops so customers can access businesses easier using public transport
  • a signalised pedestrian crossing at Activity Way, making it safer and easier for customers to walk and cycle to businesses.

Works on the Yan Yean Road Upgrade – Stage 2 are expected to start in late 2025.
