Local Jobs Powering SRL Tunnel Boring Machines

Back to Newsfeed

Suburban Rail Loop (SRL) is creating more jobs close to home, with local Monash business RSGx awarded the contract to build a temporary sub-station to power SRL East tunnel boring machines – supporting 55 local jobs.

RSGx is based across the road from the SRL East construction site on Howley’s Road – where crews are preparing to build a brand new underground station.

Anthony McCurry, RSGx Operations Manager Major Projects said the team is thrilled to be part of such an iconic project.

SRL East will bring a direct train line to Monash University for the first time, making it faster and easier for tens of thousands of staff and students to get to campus every day and boosting economic growth, employment for Melbourne’s largest employment and innovation hub outside of the CBD.

Construction of SRL East from Cheltenham to Box Hill is powering ahead, creating up to 8000 direct local jobs across Victoria, with a long pipeline of jobs and opportunities for the state’s highly skilled construction and transport industries.

Major construction is underway, with tunnelling to start next year and trains taking passengers in 2035. RSGx is now on site in Monash preparing to start building the temporary sub-station.

SRL East will be one of Victoria’s most sustainable construction projects, with TBMs powered by renewable electricity from this facility, and two others under construction in Burwood and Heatherton.

As Australia’s largest housing project, SRL not only means faster, more reliable travel for Victorians, it will help deliver 70,000 additional homes around the six new SRL East stations - right next door to jobs, services and world-class public transport.
