Save the date - Community Day to celebrate tunnelling milestone

Back to Newsfeed

Mark your calendars for a day of free, family-friendly activities, live entertainment and refreshments to celebrate tunnelling on the project moving towards completion.

On Saturday, 6 May 2023 from 11am to 3pm, the community is invited to a day of fun, food and live entertainment at the West Gate Tunnel Project Info Centre, at the corner of Somerville Road and Whitehall Street, Yarraville.

For more than a year now, Tunnel Boring Machines (TBM) Bella and Vida have been steadily digging their way under Yarraville, 24/7, creating the two twin tunnels that will create an alternative to the West Gate Bridge.

In February 2023, TBM Vida broke through and completed her 2.8km trip, excavating over 1,000,000 tonnes of rock and soil while installing more than 10,000 individual concrete segments. Crews are now building the road deck and installing electrical, lighting and safety systems to prepare the tunnel for completion in 2025. TBM Bella is expected to come to her journey’s end next month, after completing her 4km journey.

This is your chance to see behind the scene of one of the biggest projects underway in Victoria.
