To get ready for major works starting January 2026, we’ll remove the existing roundabout at Ballan, McGrath and Greens roads, install concrete safety barriers, and build temporary pavement and a temporary roundabout to keep traffic moving during construction.
What we’re doing and when
Before the roundabout demolition and major works, we will complete non-destructive digging to identify underground services. To do this, we’ll close McGrath Road north at Ballan Road from 9am to 3pm on Thursday 15 and Friday 16 January 2026. Access to McGrath Road north will be from Bolton Road.
Night works
To prepare for major construction, we’ll fully close the Ballan, Greens and McGrath roads roundabout overnight in mid-January and early February to demolish the existing roundabout, install barriers and build a temporary roundabout.
Ballan, Greens and McGrath roads will be closed at the roundabout with the following detours in place:
- Eastbound: via Ballan, Bolton and Heaths roads and Greaves Street north
- Westbound: via Ballan, Hooker, Rowes and Bolton roads
- Local: Cambridge Crescent and Honour Avenue.
Access will be maintained to homes and shops via detours and traffic controller assistance. Please follow detours shown on the detour map below.
These works will take place between 9pm to 5am each night on the following days:
- From Sunday 18 to Thursday 22 January 2026
- From Wednesday 28 to Friday 30 January
- From Monday 2 to Friday 6 February.
