Scope settled
We reviewed feedback from our April 2025 community pop-ups, along with input from local businesses, public transport operators, Wyndham City Council and the Department of Transport and Planning.
We finalised the design for the Ballan Road Intersection Upgrade. Key features include:
- replacing the congested roundabout at Ballan Road, Greens Road, and McGrath Road north with a new traffic light intersection, adding extra lanes through the intersection to improve travel time and journey reliability
- adding new traffic lights at McGrath Road south near the 7-Eleven, making it safer and easier to turn right towards Werribee
- providing dedicated pedestrian crossings and shared walking and cycling paths, making it easier to move between homes, services, schools, and businesses
- introducing a new bus priority lane on Ballan Road to improve public transport reliability.

In January 2026, we started working behind safety barriers to build the northern half of the new intersection. This allowed traffic to keep flowing on Ballan Road while construction continued.
From Monday 22 June, we moved to the next stage of major works and started building the southern side of the new intersection.
At 5am, Monday 9 November, we'll open the new traffic-light-controlled intersection at Ballan, Greens and McGrath roads, 3 months ahead of schedule.
To prepare for the opening, we’ll close the intersection overnight on Thursday 5 November and over the weekend from the night of Friday 6 November to the morning of Monday 9 November.
After the intersection opens, we’ll remotely monitor and adjust green time to help traffic flow better while drivers become familiar with the new layout. Please take extra care and follow signs when travelling through the intersection.
After the new intersection opens, we’ll complete the final asphalt layer and permanent line-marking. To do this we’ll close sections of road from mid November to late November, 8pm to 5am each night.
Some lane and night closures will continue until early 2027 while we complete finishing works, including street lighting, landscaping, medians and walking and cycling paths.
