Scope now settled
We’ve reviewed feedback from our April 2025 community pop-ups, along with input from local businesses, public transport operators, Wyndham City Council and the Department of Transport and Planning.
We’ve now finalised the design for the Ballan Road Intersection Upgrade. Key features include:
- replacing the congested roundabout at Ballan Road, Greens Road, and McGrath Road north with a new traffic light intersection, adding extra lanes through the intersection to improve travel time and journey reliability
- adding new traffic lights at McGrath Road south near the 7-Eleven, making it safer and easier to turn right towards Werribee
- providing dedicated pedestrian crossings and shared walking and cycling paths, making it easier to move between homes, services, schools, and businesses
- introducing a new bus priority lane on Ballan Road to improve public transport reliability.

What's next?
We’ve completed site investigations to confirm the location of utility services.
We have awarded the contract for the project. We are delivering the upgrade in partnership with construction company Symal. Construction plans have been drafted and finalised, and we’ve explored staging options to help minimise impacts on the community and local businesses while we build the upgrade.
Current and upcoming works
Changes to pedestrian crossing
The existing pedestrian crossing on Ballan Road that leads to the Greens Road service road will be closed for the duration of the project. This path will be used by construction workers to access the site compound. Closing the crossing to the public protects both the community and workers while still providing alternative routes. Pedestrians can continue to use footpaths and crossings on the other legs of the roundabout.
Site preparation works
We removed some vegetation as part of preparing the area for major construction in 2026 and to install our site compound. Tree planting and landscaping will take place once major construction is complete.
